Departing from Isla Mujeres by boat passing by the beautiful Isla Contoy, minutes later, we enter the breeding and feeding area of the wonderful whale fish, a species of shark that can measure approximately. 10 meters long and can weigh up to 9 tons.
Whale sharks visit the shores of Cancun during the warm summer months and it is at this time of year when it is possible to see groups of up to 40 or 50 specimens, considered to be the largest concentration of whale sharks in the world.
Having the opportunity to approach it is undoubtedly a unique experience, despite its enormous size, the whale shark is a docile, friendly and above all shy fish, so it is always advisable not to touch it, this species, despite its enormous size, it does not pose any danger to humans, in fact, they are quite affectionate, and are usually playful, tourists can swim next to this gigantic shark without running any danger, except for the occasional unintentional blow from the animal’s long tail.
